Wachusett has added a new half pipe to their Alpine Park, a winter playground for skiers and snow boarders. Located on the "Look Ma" trail, the Alpine Park is highlighted by special features built to cure the appetite of those who yearn to catch air and soar to new heights. The mountain plans to host more snowboard events during the winter, as well. With the addition of a Pipe Dragon grooming device, Wachusett will be adding a half pipe this season for snowboarders. The new device will allow a half pipe to be easily built and maintained during the winter.

Getting There

Wachusett Mountain is located just off Route 140, about 15 miles north of Worcester, 50 miles west of Boston, and 60 miles north of Providence, Rhode Island.

From Worcester Airport, take Route 290 to Route 190 and drive N to Exit 5, get on Route 140 and drive 9 miles to the access road.

Area Information

Wachusett has replaced the Nor'easter Triple chair with a high speed detachable quad, shortening travel time from 10 minutes to 3.5 minutes. This now gives Wachusett Mountain the only two high-speed detachable quad chairlifts in the state of Massachusetts.

The Monadnock Double chair has been replaced with a new triple to allow better utilization of the beginner terrain and a more functional learning area.

Additional snowmaking capacity now allows for more snow to be made at colder temperatures, reducing noise levels and energy consumption and two new Piston Bully grooming vehicles have been added to the grooming fleet.

Wachusett Mountain features the first (and only) high-speed detachable quad chair lift in Massachusetts. If you're a regular skier at Wachusett, you know that they continually strive to provide the best skiing experience possible. The $1.9 million high-speed detachable quad chair lift replaced the triple chair to the 2,006-foot summit, dramatically increasing the rate skiers were transported to the top of Wachusett Mountain. "The new high-speed quad decreased the base-to-summit chair lift ride from the former 10 minutes to just 4 1/2 minutes," explained Wachusett's General Manager David Crowley. "It carries four passengers at a time, with a top speed of 1,000 feet-per-minute, or more than 11 miles-per-hour." Yet, because of the quad's computerized detachable feature, the chairs move slowly, less than two miles-per-hour, through the loading and unloading areas. "That allows people with skis, or without skis for our fall foliage sky rides to the summit, to get on or off from the chairs easily," added Crowley. The ski shop has been expanded, featuring the "Instant Action Demo Center," where you walk in and ski out.
