Durango Mountain
Resort does not discriminate between snow sliding disciplines
- we now have three terrain parks open to skiers & boarders.
Pitchfork Terrain Park, Limbo Slopestyle Park, and Snag
Feature Trail are all part of our "boarder-friendly" atmosphere.
Pitchfork features a half-pipe over 400 feet long, hips,
and a variety of rails. Limbo boasts table tops, rails,
six big hits, and two large gaps. Snag is our 'natural'
park, with trees, hills, headwalls, and moguls.

The
weather forecasters and geologists could write volumes about
the Purgatory phenomenon, but it all boils down to this:
Location, location, location. Towering mountains meet the
high desert here in Southwest Colorado, the ecosystems rub
up against each other and this results in a paradoxical
combination of incredible snow and abundant sunshine. "It's
clear where readers have found the best and most comfortable
conditions for skiing in North America," writes Snow Country
Magazine in its Top 50 Resorts issue. Even the mountain
itself defies categorization. More than 40 miles of trails
span across an area the size of 2,500 football fields put
together. The numbers, however, can't even begin to describe
the terrain's adventuresome nature. "The lofty mountains
of the Four Corners States enjoy an envied blend of plentiful
snow, intense sunshine and moderate temperatures. It seems
hardly fair that one region gets so much of the finest weather,
but that's where you'll find it." Snow Country Magazine.
Durango Mountain possesses a unique and magical character.
For that, you can thank the last Ice Age. Ancient glaciers
carved and polished this mountain like a work of art thousands
of years ago. Nowadays, you can experience their handiwork
on terrain that's always changing, always surprising. From
the gentle slopes of Columbine to the groomed cruisers like
Paradise to the trap-door headwalls of Styx, Purgatory serves
up an ideal blend of beginner, intermediate and expert terrain.
Durango Mountain
Resort features more than 2,500 acres of terrain and the
resort boasts that you will find only 2 people per acre
on their uncrowded slopes. The "front side" features many
runs named after or inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy -
Pandemonium, Paradise, Catharsis, Demon, and Divinity to
name a few. The front also offers some of Durango's premier
mogul runs - such as Lower Hades and Styx - as well as the
gentle, forested beginner terrain surrounding the Twilight
chairlift.
The "back side"
has its own signature runs, including Dead Spike, Peace,
and Sally's Run. The back side offers a mix of great cruisers
(Durango's grooming is considered by some to be the best
in Colorado) and longer, challenging steeps. When you're
ready for a real challenge, try the big bumps on Elliott's,
Wapiti, or Bull Run, or the glades of Paul's Park.
Beginners should
head to the separate Columbine learning area, which is served
by its own lifts yet is easily accessible from the rest
of the resort. Columbine has its own ticket office and restaurant,
and gives first timers a fun and friendly area for learning
the ins and outs of skiing or snowboarding.
Lodging is
available both at Durango Mountain and in nearby Durango.
With an authentic "Old West" feel to it, Durango is consistently
voted one of the top ski towns in America. With a trio of
microbreweries, dozens of fine restaurants, unique shops
and art galleries, Durango is as classic Colorado as it
gets.
